Workers' Compensation Seminar: What You Need to Know
Presenter: Marion Halverson
Halverson is a senior compliance officer, Workers' Compensation Division at the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry. Prior to joining the division's Compliance Unit, Halverson handled and supervised Minnesota workers' compensation claims for insurance companies for more than 30 years. She is also involved with the department's training team, teaching Minnesota Workers' Compensation classes to both employers and insurers.
IT'S THE LAW
All employers are required to purchase workers’ compensation insurance or become self-insured, according to Minnesota Workers’ Compensation Law.
Employers are those who hire others to perform services. Employees are hired to perform services for another. BUT there are exceptions – and some employers are exempt.
This important, employer-focused seminar will identify common misperceptions about workers’ compensation insurance, including who needs coverage.
Attendees will:

· Learn the dos and don’ts of Minnesota workers’ compensation
