DESCRIPTION:Family Fishing Funday\n\nFriday\, August 3\, 2018 from 9:30 a.m.-11 a.m.\n\nMeet at the Itasca Fishing Pier\, below Douglas Lodge\n\n \n\nKids and adults learn the new skill of fishing. Learn to identify the common fish species\, how to tie a knot\, bait your hook and cast for fish. Suitable for ages 6-12. NOTES: An adult must accompany children. Bring your own fishing pole or use one provided (limited number). Poles are available on first come first serve basis. Artificial bait provided. Non-Minnesota residents will need a fishing license (within the park\, purchase at Itasca Sports Rental).  Qualifies for the Aquatic Quest special edition geocache card.\n\n \n\nHeadwaters History Walk\n\nFriday\, August 3\, 2018 from 10-10:30 a.m.\n\nMeet at the compass rose under the porch of the Mary Gibbs Mississippi Headwaters Center\n\n \n\nLearn about fun facts of the Mississippi Headwaters during this short naturalist-led walk to the Headwaters of the Mississippi River.\n\n \n\nWhat'SUP? An Introduction to Stand-up Paddleboarding\n\nFriday\, August 3\, 2018 from 1-2:30 p.m. (30 minute time slots\; sign-up required.)\n\nMeet at the Lake Itasca boat access\n\n \n\nStand-up paddleboards (SUP) offer a fun and relaxing way to play\, offering a full-body workout. With minimum gear you can enjoy lakes\, rivers\, or oceans. And since you stand at full height\, enjoy unique views including lake critters to what's on the horizon. Meet at the boat access to learn the basics of stand-up paddleboarding from a Naturalist. We will cover safety and a few basic skills before heading out on to the water. Paddleboard equipment will be provided. Life jackets are required. Bring your own or a limited size and number of life jackets will be available\n\nSpace is limited\,call the park naturalists: Sandra at 218-699-7252 to register for a 30-minute time slot.\n\n \n\nJr. Naturalist: Legendary Loons!\n\nFriday\, August 3\, 2018 from 2-2:45 p.m.\n\nMeet at the lakeside Museum Amphitheater in the picnic grounds\; if raining\, held inside the Jacob V. Brower Visitor Center\n\n \n\nLearn about the life and legends of Minnesota's State Bird\, the common loon\, during this fun program.\n\n\n\n\n\nTheater in the Park: Three Excellent Cows\n\nFriday\, August 3\, 2018 from 7-8:30 p.m.\n\nHeld inside the Jacob V. Brower Visitor Center\n\n \n\nCome join Bemidji Community Theater as they present another fun summer production at Itasca State Park. "Three Excellent Cows" is the story of three cows who learn what it takes to make their un-cow-like dreams come true. With the help of their friends and their farmer\, they discover what it takes to be excellent together despite every disappointment\, discouragement and barnyard disaster. A free-will donation is requested to help cover the various costs of putting on a theater production.
