DESCRIPTION:Giiwedinong Museum is proud to announce a May 17th installation of the "Not Afraid to Look" sculpture on Giiwedinong's corner in Park Rapids\, 101 2nd Street W.\, and Highway 71. \n\nThe sculptor\, Charles Rencountre\, will join us for festivities for this installation.\n\nJoin Charles Rencountre and Giiwedinong on Saturday\, May 18th\, in celebrating the unveiling of this powerful sculpture and showing your support for the important work being done at the Giiwedinong Museum. \n\n \n\nSaturday\, May 18th\, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.\n\n"Not Afraid to Look" is a sculpture erected at the Sacred Stone Camp on the Missouri River during the Standing Rock resistance gathering. The 18-foot sculpture emerged from an "effigy pipe\," originally carved and used at the end of the 17th century.\n\n\n\nThe Park Rapids Arts and Culture Commission is pleased to partner with the Giiwedinong Museum to celebrate and honor the creative work of sculptors participating in this year's Sculpture Trail.  Paul Albright\, sculptor and commission member\, described "Not Afraid to Look" as "a powerful sculpture that sits firmly grounded in message and physical beauty."\n\n\nINVITATION\n\n\nCome celebrate the opening with Giiwedinong\, Charles\, the Park Rapids Arts & Culture Advisory Commission\, the City of Park Rapids\, and surrounding communities\, featuring a traditional drum group honor song\, and partake in other celebrations. \n\nNative American artisans will also have booths to display their work.\n\nLet's unite in our efforts to safeguard our environment for future generations and make a positive impact together.
