Description
Join the NCTA and Itasca State Park as they celebrate HIKING in northern Minnesota. The family-friendly event will feature an all day long hike, shorter themed hikes, kids/family programs, an ice cream social, music, and an evening speaker.
Draft schedule:
10:00am Meet at Brower Visitors Center classroom for the Long Hike shuttle (11am-4pm). The group will hike the Nicollet – NCT/Eagle Scout – DeSoto Lake loop (~10 miles). Shuttle provided. Pack a trail lunch and water.
10:30am Fire in the Forest Hike: hike to the Aiton Heights Fire Tower - 3 mi. round trip leaving from Forest Inn, 2 hours. Meet at Forest Inn.
1:30pm Pack a Snack activity - Meet in the Brower Visitor Center Classroom.
1:30pm Headwaters & Schoolcraft Trail hike - 2-mile out and back
2:00pm Tots on the Trail story hike - Meet in the Brower Visitor Center Classroom. Target age: pre-schoolers, Hike will be on an accessible 1/3 mile trail
2:00pm Geocaching activity - Meet in the Visitors Center classroom
2:30pm Make your own Hiking Stick activity inside the Visitors Center classroom
3:30pm Family Hike on the Bike Trail & Brower Trail loop - 2-mile loop
4:00 – 5:00pm Ice Cream Social by the Friends of Itasca, outside of Douglas Lodge
5:00 – 6:00pm Bring your own picnic dinner & Music outside of Forest Inn / Douglas Lodge
6:00 – 7:00pm Evening program with info on the 50th Anniversary of the National Trails System
