Hardwood Groove will open the summer 2nd Street Stage summer season Thursday, June 19. Hardwood Groove is rooted in Detroit Lakes. They are a group of musicians who draw inspiration from many varieties of music. On stage, bluegrass, blues, folk, rock and funk all meet in one electrified show. Roots inspired songs are tied together with vocal harmonies and spiced up with a collaborative improvisational aspect. Founding members, Dan Thornby and Jake Seelye, started out as a mandolin, guitar and drum folk trio in the fall of 2009. The band has since grown to add Keith Thornby on saxophone, Dustin Ellingson (of Insideout Strings and the Carluster Krumplebee Orchestra) on bass, and Ryan Stetson (Go Murphy) on drums. Sponsored by the Park Rapids Downtown Business Association and Vision Source Park Rapids Eye Clinic, 2nd Street Stage continues from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursdays through Aug. 21 with free live bands, a beer garden and family activities. Please bring your own chair. For more information, go to www.parkrapidsdowntown.com.
