Meet at the compass rose under the porch of the Mary Gibbs Mississippi Headwaters Center. Hike follows the Schoolcraft Trail.

Explore the human history within the park as we cover 8,000 years of people in the Itasca area. Learn about the Archaic peoples, the Mdewakanton Dakota, the Anishinaabe, the voyageurs and explorers. Choose your side over the debate over the source of the Mississippi. Learn more about the logging days and pioneers, and finally with the establishment of the park by Jacob V. Brower in 1891. Bring insect repellant, sunscreen, water and a hat.
