Description
On Sunday, Dec. 4, at 3 p.m. at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Park Rapids.
Under the leadership of Melanie Hanson, director, and accompanied by Cheryl Steinborn, pianist, the Chorale will sing a variety of familiar and classical choral works, including Still, Still, Still, arranged by Norman Luboff; In Dulci Jubilo by Matthew Culloton; and Wassail, arranged by R. Vaughan Williams.
Soloists for the program include: tenor Dave Keller in a southern folk hymn, My Song in the Night, arranged by Paul Christiansen; tenor Alretta Skellenger in the classic, I Wonder as I Wander, by J. Aaron McDermid; soprano Deb Haagenson in Calpyso Carol by Kirby Shaw; and alto Anita Hannemann in the familiar Beautiful Savior, arranged by F. Melius Christiansen.
The chorale is celebrating its 26th season this year. Dr. Hanson, director of the Chorale since 2015, brings a passion for choral music and a wide range of musical experience to the Park Rapids community and beyond. Most recently she played violin with Mannheim Steamroller at its Christmas concert in Bemidji.
Dr. Hanson is a music and choir teacher at Schoolcraft Learning Community, a public charter school at Concordia’s French Language Village north of Bemidji. She is co-music director with her husband, Michael, at New Salem Lutheran in Turtle River, and Concert-Master of the Bemidji Symphony Orchestra. She has directed several choirs and musicals in both the Bemidji and Chanhassen areas.
She holds a doctorate of musical arts from the University of Minnesota; a master of music in violin performance from Youngstown State in Youngstown, Ohio; and a bachelor of music in instrumental and choral music education from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. A first soprano, she sang with both the Concordia College Choir and The National Lutheran Choir.
Members of the chorale’s board of directors are: Dave Keller, president; John Kisser, vice president; Marvel Haynes, secretary; Donna Neumann, treasurer; and section leaders Sandy Aldrich, Anita Hannemann, Thom Peterson and Bill Weeks.
While the community is invited to attend at no charge, a goodwill offering will be taken.
