The Park Rapids Lakes Area has earned a good reputation because of our extraordinarily clean waters. Park Rapids League of Women Voters (LWVPR) will devote several educational programs related to the surface and groundwater of the region this year.
Julie Kingsley, District Manager and Local Water Plan Coordinator with the Hubbard County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD), will be the speaker for the program “Water: Why YOU Should Care”, Tuesday, January 6, from 6:30 to 8 PM at the Northwoods Bank Community Room (handicap accessible). Julie will present the 2014 report, “Minnesota’s Clean Water Roadmap” and how the SWCD works to assure river and stream water quality in conjunction with Watershed Restoration and Projects (WRAP), including the Crow Wing River, Leech Lake River and Upper Mississippi River watershed areas. Much of the work the SWCD does to protect Hubbard County’s waters are projects on the land. Public input will be solicited and will be invaluable to informing her on-going work. Building the knowledge base of the public can help better plan, share and protect our waters, including those from below ground to the surface.
We invite and encourage all to come to this free program. Light refreshments will be served.
