RUN, DON'T WALK to Itasca State Park this Thanksgiving weekend for FREE PARK DAY!
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is waiving vehicle permit fees at all 73 state parks and recreation areas on Friday, November 28. This Free Park Day is one of four fee-free days each year, one in every season. Stay tuned for the announcement of the 2026 free park days schedule.
Things to do during your visit:
- Learn something new at the Jacob V. Brower Visitor Center (open 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.)
- Shop for park-themed Christmas gifts at the visitor center nature store
- Pick up an Itasca State Park bird checklist and see how many you can find
- Walk off the calories from your Thanksgiving feast on miles of trails
- Rent cross-country skis or snowshoes from Itasca Sports (availability is snow-dependent)
- Experience the magic of the Twinkle Light Trail (illuminated dusk - 10 p.m.)
