Park Rapids Legends and Logging Days celebrates the area’s logging and lumberjack heritage. New for 2021 “The Backyard BBQ Challenge”.
Festivities kicks off with water wars at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12 on Main Ave. in downtown Park Rapids. It’s a battle to push the cable suspended barrel with fire houses on each end. Teams sign up to battle it out for bragging rights and possession of the coveted Loony Traveling Trophy. Live music on 2nd Street Stage follows the competition.
On Saturday, the activity shifts to the 4th block of Main Avenue in downtown Park Rapids. Gates open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday activities include the return of the award-winning Timberworks Lumberjack Show. Four times throughout the day, lumberjacks will compete against each other in log rolling, pole climbing, cross-cut sawing, axe throwing and log chopping.
New this year, the Backyard BBQ Challenge an open class back yard grilling challenge where contestants can compete to win prize money in three different cooking classes; Ribs, Chicken and Sides. Heading up the Challenge is Grand Pit Master, Leonard Hawkins. Other family-friendly attractions include: Civil War encampment, kids’ candy cannon shots multiple times during the day, the Smokey Hills Archery Challenge for kids and adults, and tomahawk throwing. The Army National Guard will be on hand with wall climbing.
Throughout the day, a food court and beer garden will be available. The Logging Camp comes downtown to serve up a huge loggers’ breakfast starting at 8 a.m. Pike’s sweet corn, RDO fries and Main Street Meats pulled pork sandwiches starting at 11 a.m. Vendors will be on display from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.. Live music by local artist 2 Towns Down from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. From 5 to 8 p.m. music by award-winning writer, singer and Nashville performer; Eli Mosley. ImagiNick performing from 5 p.m.-8 p.m.
On Sunday, Aug. 15th, there will be a free concert featuring artist Levi Pelzer starting at 2:30 to 5 p.m. on the beach at Sleeping Fawn Resort. Proceeds to benefit the Northwoods Wildlife Recue Inc.
