"Weave" your way into history! |
Wednesday Feb 13, 2013 Sunday Feb 17, 2013
This spring we are excited to be hosting Woven Welcome: Governor's Fishing Opener. This project will see the entire Park Rapids community weave a giant textile art piece which will be displayed down the middle of Main Avenue during the Governor's Fishing Opener in May.
We are asking residents, businesses and community organizations to consider weaving a piece of the mat. Looms, textiles for weaving and instruction will be provided. Each participant will weave a rectangle, and during the weekend of the GFO, all the rectangles will be sewn together to form one giant textile art piece. Participants will be able to sign their rectangles and a list of all participants will be on display during the GFO. The project which will be documented by Lakeland Television in an hour long special to be aired statewide, is designed to bring all of Park Rapids together in one effort to show what makes this community special.
Artist Jill Odegaard will be in Park Rapids Feb 13-17, and she will be available to meet with groups to discuss the project and weave sections. Other sessions can be arranged throughout the spring. No prior experience with weaving or textile arts is necessary and all materials and tools will be provided.
