Fifteen woodcarvers from the Park Rapids area are hosting a public open house from 2 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 9 at the Park Rapids Area Library at the conclusion of a three-day workshop on Scandinavian Flat Plane carving.
The public is invited to come and view the carving projects and visit with the carvers and their instructor, Harley Refsal of Decorah, Iowa. Refsal has been teaching woodcarving since 1984. In 1996, the King of Norway awarded him the St. Olav’s medal for his contributions to Norwegian folk art.
The purpose of the open house is to acquaint the public with area carvers and how a piece of wood can be transofrmed into a work of art. The carvings will be for display only (no sales).
