National Trails Day Glacial Hills Hike: Exploring the North Country Trail and Itasca State Park
Date and Time
Saturday Jun 4, 2016
12:30 PM - 5:00 PM CDT
June 4th, Saturday *Meet at the North Country Trail Head Parking at the South Entrance to Itasca State Park at 12:30
Location
Join volunteers with the Laurentian Lakes and Itasca Moraine Chapters of the North Country Trail Association on a 4.5 mile hike on the North Country National Scenic Trail as we hike into Itasca State Park. We will pass by Three Pines Pond and several other wetlands as we hike this rolling glacially formed landscape. Noted for its “knobs and kettle” topography, or rolling moraines and lakes landscape, we will enter the park at the end of the hike route. The park is home to the Headwaters of the Mississippi River and is the second oldest in the USA (Niagara Falls in NY is the oldest.) (refer to Map 14, page 116 of the “Guide to the North Country National Scenic Trail in Minnesota”).
